Groundbreaking

To all who are following the habiTECH12 team we just completed our first milestone in our journey to completing this house. On Saturday January 28, 20112 at two o' clock we started our groundbreaking ceremony and it was a big success. We had a great turn out with many of our family members and sponsors who showed their support in beginning phases of our construction. We now have 111 days till graduation which is also the deadline for the house. Let the excitement begin!!!

Golden shovels always needed.

Dirt and lots of it

Relating to the house, this week has been pretty eventful. We as a class sent off the construction documents to get approved for our building permits so that construction can begin. That was somewhat of a success we got the foundation permit which is good but will have to resend the remaining documents to get looked over again.

Foundation work begins
Today (Saturday the 21st) was the start of the dirt work.  We received 8 loads of dirt and watched as a bulldozer worked its magic. After 4 hours of moving and spreading the loads of dirt around we now have flat and stable place to begin the form work for the concrete.  This dream of building a house is now becoming a reality.

Shown below are a few pictures from today.

Sleep..... What is that?

It is crunch time!!! We have 72 hours and some change before our Construction documents will be reviewed so we can get our building permit. It has been all hands on deck working on completing our drawings. So really what this means is very little sleep for us. On top of having these drawing due we have cleaned up the site for our ground breaking ceremony on the 28th of this month. So all of this can be completed we have broken up into teams to help complete these tasks.
Shown below is a brief look at some of the drawings my team and a few others have been working on.

2012

Hello everyone welcome to 2012!!!! It doesn’t seem like we were on break very long, but it’s time to get down to business. The first week back started on Wednesday so we are trying to make the most of it by jumping right back into everything head first. We as a class have priced materials and made connections in Ruston to help with the build. On top of all this we have started the process of drawing and compiling all the construction documents so we can get our building permit. Our goal is to complete these drawings and have them submitted by the 18th of January. So the construction can begin!!!!! But until then we have lots to do clean and prep the site for our ground breaking ceremony on the 28th of January. The dream is becoming a reality!!!
